What are the Most Common Plumbing Problems at Home?

A Few Common Household Plumbing Problems You May Face

Why a residential drainage contractor is needed because there are a lot of plumbing and drainage issues that go undetected. These problems can go unnoticed and can cost extra on your water bill. These unchecked problems need to be addressed by professionals who can fix it before it’s too late.

What are the most common plumbing problems at home? The most common in most homes are clogged drains and toilets, leaky faucets and pipes, water heater issues, low water pressure, and a running toilet. Each of these issues requires a different solution that needs the expert hand of a professional in order to nip the problem right in the bud.

When you try to fix these problems unsuccessfully, you don’t realize how much of a blessing is to have a plumber to call on when you encounter these problems. It is better to leave the bigger problems to a professional rather than someone inexperienced because a problem can go off the wrong direction and turn worse than it started.

What are the most common plumbing problems and how do you fix them?

  1. Clogged toilets and drain

With clogged toilets and drains, using a plunger is the old-fashioned and trusted way to unclog any toilet or drains. When you use a plunger, it helps loosen the clog using air pressure.

If you need something more heavy duty, using chemical drain cleaners can also do the job if the clog can’t be fixed by a plunger only.

  1. Leaky faucets and pipes

With leaky faucets and pipes, replacing the washer that is causing the leak can be easily done right then and there. However, if you don’t feel confident, it is better to call in a plumber to do the job as they have the right tools for it to be done quickly.

Leaky faucets and pipes may seem a simple job but to avoid a bigger problem sometimes it is easier for a professional to handle it.

  1. Running toilet

When you have too much water in the tank, you may experience a running toilet. A running toilet is the overflow water that leaks down into the bowl from the talk through the overflow tube. To fix a running toilet, you should check the components in order to find the problem.

Make sure that the fill tube inside the tank is properly attached and the flow is towards the overflow tube. Adjust the float to ensure the fill valve shuts off properly. If simple adjustments don’t work, it may be time to replace the components of the internal tank completely.

  1. Low water pressure

If you have low water pressure and you are more than capable of fixing it, start with your aerators or showerheads where the water pressure starts to have issues. Clean the end of your faucet tap.

If you think that build up is the culprit, you can try soaking the aerator or showerhead in vinegar so that it can clear up. If you can’t have it removed, try filling a bag with vinegar and tying it to the faucet so the aerator or showerhead can soak in the vinegar.

If by then the problem isn’t solved, it is time to call the plumber.

How can common plumbing problems be prevented?

  1. Be careful what you flush

Even if a product says flushable, you should think twice about flushing it down the toilet. Flushing tissues or wipes can cause plumbing problems especially for older pipes and sewer systems as they were not designed to handle objects that are not easily broken down.

When you flush objects like sanitary napkins and wads of toilet paper and wipes, you are contributing to clogging your pipes and septic tank.

  1. Don’t pour grease down the drain

Pouring grease down the drain is never a good idea. When you pour grease down the drain it does not go down easily as it can harden and stick to your pipes. When you pour more and more and grease, over time your pipes will get clogged and water can no longer go down easily.

  1. Fix problems as soon as possible

The best way to avoid plumbing problems is to fix minor problems as soon as possible. Start by fixing the small problems before it gets bigger, small leaks can become major problems when not spotted and remedied quickly.
